Your Astrobloom Dashboard: A Starter Guide
You Have the Theory. Here's the Interface.
You've now covered the core concepts: what BaZi is, the Five Elements, Yin-Yang, the 22-character alphabet, and how to read the Four Pillars.
This final article is a practical tour of Astrobloom's main features. Think of it as a product walkthrough — what each section does, what you'll find there, and how to connect it to what you've learned.
Start Here: Generate Your Chart
The first thing to do is generate your birth chart (命盘, Mìng Pán, "Destiny Chart").
You'll need:
- Your birthdate (year, month, day)
- Your birth time (as precisely as you know it — 2-hour resolution is sufficient)
- Your birth location (for solar time correction)
If you don't have your birth time, generate a chart with the time unknown. You'll get a three-pillar chart (Year, Month, Day) which is still rich with information. Many practitioners work primarily with three pillars. You can always add the Hour pillar later if you find your birth time.
Once generated, your chart appears as the familiar four-column grid. At this point, apply what you learned in Article 4: find your Day Stem, check your Month Branch, scan the element distribution.
The Natal Report: Your Personality Analysis
The Natal Report is the core analysis based purely on your birth chart — independent of timing.
It covers several dimensions:
Personality Overview
This section profiles your core character based on your Day Stem element and polarity, combined with the overall chart configuration. You'll likely recognize yourself in it — and probably notice a few things that feel surprisingly accurate.
Career Tendencies
Based on the Ten Gods (十神, Shí Shén, "Ten Spirit Roles") structure in your chart — the relationships between your Day Stem and the other characters — the Career section identifies domains where your natural energy tends to flow. This is one of the more practically useful sections for people at career crossroads.
The Ten Gods are the interpretive layer beyond raw elements — they describe how each character in your chart functions relative to your Day Stem. Terms like "Designer" (食神, Shí Shén), "Disruptor" (伤官, Shāng Guān), and "Wealth" (财, Cái) all describe specific dynamic roles. The platform explains each one as it appears in your report. After finishing this series, the Ten Gods are the logical next topic to explore.
Wealth Profile
Not a prediction of how much money you'll accumulate — rather, a description of your relationship with resources: whether you tend toward accumulation or circulation, where financial stress tends to arise, and what kinds of financial activities align with your energy.
Relationship Patterns
How your Day Stem interacts with the character representing partnerships in your chart. What you naturally provide in relationships, what you typically need in return, and where your characteristic blind spots tend to appear.
Health Tendencies
Mapped to the Five Elements and the organ systems they correspond to in classical Chinese medicine. Consider this a wellness awareness section rather than a diagnostic tool.
Time Fortune: Understanding Your Current Phase
The Natal Report is static. The Time Fortune section (时运, Shí Yùn, "Time-based Fortune") adds the time dimension.
BaZi's time analysis works at four scales:
Major Cycles (大运, Dà Yùn, "Great Fortune") — 10-Year Phases
Each 10-year block of your life has a governing Stem-Branch combination that colors the entire period. Think of it like a decade-long weather pattern. The same Day Stem navigates a Metal-heavy decade very differently from a Water-heavy one.
Annual Fortune (流年, Liú Nián, "Flowing Year")
Each year has its own Stem-Branch — 2024 is 甲辰 (Jiǎ Chén, Yang Wood Dragon), 2025 is 乙巳 (Yǐ Sì, Yin Wood Snake), and so on. The annual energy interacts with your natal chart to create year-specific themes.
"Your 2025 annual fortune" doesn't mean "here's what will happen in 2025." It means: here's the energetic context of 2025 relative to your specific chart. Some of that context supports your natural strengths. Some creates friction that demands adjustment. None of it is fixed fate.
Monthly Fortune (流月, Liú Yuè, "Flowing Month")
For shorter-horizon planning, monthly analysis shows which months within a year carry stronger or weaker resonance with your chart.
Daily Fortune (日运, Rì Yùn, "Daily Fortune")
The finest granularity — the energy quality of each specific day relative to your chart. Think of it like a weather app for your personal energy. Useful for scheduling important meetings, creative work, or challenging conversations.
Compatibility: The Two-Chart Analysis
The Compatibility section lets you analyze how two BaZi charts interact. You can explore:
- Romantic partnerships — elemental complementarity, tension points, what each person provides and needs
- Business partnerships — whether your energy configurations are additive or duplicative
- Parent-child dynamics — how to work with rather than against a child's natural elemental tendencies
- Friendships — why some people feel immediately easy and others always require more effort
No two charts are "perfectly compatible" or "incompatible." High compatibility scores mean the energy flows easily — but easy isn't always more valuable than challenging. Some of the most productive partnerships involve friction. Use compatibility analysis to understand the dynamic, not to decide whether a relationship is worth pursuing.
The Roster: Managing Multiple Charts
Most people want to analyze charts beyond their own — partners, family members, close friends or colleagues. The Roster feature lets you save multiple charts and return to them without re-entering birth data.
Saved charts are available for both individual analysis and compatibility pairings.
Academy: Going Deeper
You're currently in the Academy — Astrobloom's structured learning section. This first series ("Source Code: Your BaZi Starter Guide") gives you the foundation. Future series will go deeper into:
- The Ten Gods in detail
- Five Element strength assessment (身强/身弱, Shēn Qiáng / Shēn Ruò, "Strong / Weak")
- The Hidden Stems (藏干, Cáng Gān) within Earthly Branches
- Advanced interaction patterns (合冲刑害, Hé Chōng Xíng Hài, "Fusion, Clash, Penalty, Harm")
- Seasonal and climate analysis
Each series builds on the previous one. If you've made it through all six articles here, you're genuinely prepared for the next level — not just reading about BaZi but actively analyzing what you see.
I Ching Oracle: Hexagram Divination
For questions about specific situations — a career decision, a relationship, a project — Astrobloom also offers the I Ching Oracle section. Unlike BaZi (which is based on your fixed birth chart), I Ching is situational: you bring a specific question and receive a hexagram reading.
The two systems are complementary. BaZi describes your baseline configuration; I Ching addresses a specific moment of decision.
Best Dates: Timing Your Actions
The Best Dates feature calculates auspicious windows for specific activities based on your personal chart and Chinese almanac principles:
- Weddings and ceremonies
- Business launches and signings
- Moving and renovation
- Travel and appointments
It integrates your BaZi chart with classical almanac scoring to surface days that resonate well with both your personal energy and the universal calendar.
